Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now 15th most powerful person in the world according to Forbes magazine. Vladimir Puttin, President of Russia, once again topped the list. Russian president overtook the position of US President Barack Obama for the second time consecutively.
The list presented by Forbes contained names of top 72 most powerful people in the world. Other than PM Modi, three other Indian origin people made through the list including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at 36th, Arcelor Mittal Chairman and CEO Lakshmi Mittal at 57th and Microsoft’s Indian-born CEO Satya Nadella at 64th spot.
Forbes said, about Modi “India’s newest rock star does not hail from Bollywood. He is the newly elected Prime Minister who sailed into office in May with a landslide victory, ushering the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) into power after decades of control by the Gandhi dynasty.”
Forbes described Modi as a “Hindu Nationalist” and referred to the 2002 Gujrat riots when he was the chief minister of the state.
“The world is as impressed as the citizens of India: So far he’s toured the US and China and met with his Southeast Asian neighbours,” the magazine said.
This year there were only 12 newcomers on the list, including Modi and Egypt President Adbel el-Sisi.
After the fall of government this year, positions swung like pendulum and President of Indian National Congress Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, were shown the gates and thrown out of the list. Astonishingly Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was the most powerful person of India once, above Dr. Manmohan Singh.
India’s most richest person Mr. Mukesh Ambani also made through the list and holds 36th position.
