The family of burnt and slained journalist in Uttar Pradesh has agreed to call off agitation after the UP government agreed to their demands. The demands include Rs 30 lakh financial aid and a government job.
The family members and CM Akhilesh Yadav had and the demands were put forth. In addition to government job to his two sons, Akhilesh Yadav has also assured speedy justice in the case. CM assured impartial probe in the case which has been handed to DIG, Bareilly. CM also paid heed to the issue of grabbed land of the journalist’s family.
Journalist’s son told that though the names of guilty have been told to CM and also those who were involved, but yet nothing has been done. However, Akhilesh has assured that the probe will be done, even if slow, it will be just
Freelance journalist Joginder Singh was allegedly set on fire on June 1 during a police raid at his home in Shahjananpur and died on June 8 during treatment at the hospital.
After the incident, an FIR was registered by the family members of the journalist against UP minister Ram Murti Verma and five others. The FIR was lodged under murder, criminal conspiracy, intentional insult with the intention to provoke breach of peace and criminal intimidation.
Meantime, a viral video of Singh circulated around in news channels and social media which showed Singh asking why they killed him, if the ministers and his goons had a grudge against him, they could have beaten him instead of putting kerosene and burning him.
Reportedly, Verma did this after the journalist had posted reports about illegal mining activities and land grabbing against the minister. To seek strict action against the accused and have CBI probe, a Public Interest Litigation has also been filed. The family members of journalist including his wife , sister and other members continued dharna , saying that it will be called off tomorrow.
