c-section birth tecake

In a new finding, researchers rebuked the previous notion that a baby born via caesarian section also known as c-section is at greater risk of developing autism spectrum disorders (ASD) as c-section delivery damages babies health. In addition, the study authors found that the babies born via c-section are not any different and have no greater chances of ASD when compared other babies.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is neurodevelopment disorder which affects social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour. Researchers at Irish Center for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research, Cork, Ireland, conducted the study over 13400 pairs of siblings in which one child had autism. The research was conducted in contrary with the previous study that said, babies born via C-section were nearly 21 percent more likely to develop autism spectrum disorder.

After analysing the data, the study authors found no direct link between C-section birth and autism. Lead study author, Louise Kenny said that the risk of ASD is nearly negligible among new born babies and moreover if there is any risk involved it is not due to c-section delivery.

The study appeared in the medical journal JAMA Psychiatry.
