Entire world is in awe of Yoga after seeing the benfits of the simple exercises. Now, scientists have given another reason to do yoga as it can help suppress symptoms of Asthma and improve quality of life. Study authors conducted the study over people in India, Europe and US, and found that simply doing yoga on a regular basis had a huge impact in improving the quality of life and drastically reduced the effect of the disease.
“Our findings suggest that yoga exercise may lead to small improvements in asthma quality of life and symptoms,” said Zuyao Yang from Chinese University in Hong Kong.
“However, it is unclear whether yoga has a consistent impact on lung function and we do not yet know if yoga can reduce people’s medication usage, or if there are any side-effects of yoga for people with asthma,” said Yang.
For the study, scientists conducted 15 randomised trials over 1048 asthmatic participants including both men and women. Most of the participants had mild to moderate asthma and disease duration varied from six months to 23 years. All the study subjects were asked to do yoga which included breathing, meditation, maintaining different postures for a certain period of time and other yoga exercises.
Most people participating in the study continued their asthma medication while taking the help of yoga. The entire procedure went on for two weeks where study authors observed the effect o yoga on participants.
It was found that yoga reduces the effect of yoga and improves the quality of life by a significant amount. The effect of yoga varied from participant to participant but the it had a positive effect on every asthmatic person.
