Indian electronics major, Videocon has announced that it has joined hands with Microsoft to come up with a first Windows-powered LED TV. The prices for Windows 10 TV by Videocon starts at Rs. 39990 and will hit the markets soon in the next month. Additionally, the TV can also work as a personal computer!
“In these changing times, we realized the needs of our consumers of having easy access to technology at their convenience and therefore designed the world’s first hybrid TV cum PC,” Videocon Head of Technology and Innovation Akshay Dhoot said. He further stated that that they expect 5% of total sales coming from the TV, while the handsets and the smartphones would make up 3% in the H2 period.
“Right now, we have launched only 32-inch and 40-inch, which are popular in the consumer segment. Depending on the feed from the market, we would launch 55, 65, and 24 inches also,” said Dhoot. He also mentioned that the company would launch 55, 65, and a small size of 24 inches, if the response of the TV seems good enough till the end of the year.
The company currently has about 55000 sales points, however, the TV will only be launched to 60 sales point in the initial phase. The 40-inch variant of the TV comes at Rs. 52,990, meanwhile, the 32-inch LED would cost around Rs. 39990.
Microsoft director of windows business group, Vineet Durani said that Windows 10 has really done good in the market and has already reached 110 million downloads globally. “With this innovative product, we intend to extend the Windows 10 experience to more users,” Durani said.
The TV has a full HD display, 16 GB of internal memory, 2 GB of RAM and inbuilt Wi-Fi. Compared to Android, Windows may be a little late to enter the television market but they would surely capture a good market share considering the trust and dependability the users have on Microsoft Windows. Let us wait and see how good the TVs are.
