Tata Sky DTH (Direct-To-Home) on Saturday announced the availability of country’s first 4K enabled set top boxes. According to the company, the set-top box goes on retail sale with a price of 6,400 INR for the new customers, and 5,900 for the existing one. These 4K set-top boxes are capable of broadcasting UHD or Ultra HD videos that have a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels.
Tata Sky first showcased this new Ultra HD DTH set top box last year with a broadcast of the match that held in between Germany and France. Though the match was a tie, Tata Sky created a lot of chatter among folks in the country. This new set top box comes with Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound along with a video quality that is having a resolution of almost four times more than the current HD set-top boxes. However, it also has a support for backward compatibility that helps it in producing the video quality in Simple Definition (SD) and High-Definition (HD).
The launch of the new 4K set top boxes have been perfectly timed by the Tata Sky as there is only a month for the Cricket World Cup 2015 to start. Tata Sky have opened its 24×7 customer helpline for you to place an order for the set top box; otherwise one can also go to Tata Sky website or to the retailer.
With the inclusion of 4K set-top boxes in the market, the company is not only going to fire up the World Cup experience, but will also increase competition among other DTH service providers in the country. However, the density 4K TV, when compared to the HD sets, in the country is very sparse. The market for the 4K set-top boxes in the country right now is very limited and will apparently only benefit other users with the Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound.
