Samsung Z1 TeCake

The top smartphone seller in India, Samsung Electronics on Tuesday reported that the firm has sold a record 1 million Tizen-powered Samsung Z1 handsets since its launch in January 2015.

Samsung India’s vice-president-marketing, mobile and IT; Asim Warsi said, “Our insights have shown that consumers hesitate to move beyond the familiar basic and simple interaction with their mobile devices. Keeping this in mind, Samsung Z1 features an easy to use UI that offers a smooth and fast experience to ensure a seamless migration to smartphones.”

The low-budget Samsung Z1 selling with a price tag of Rs. 5,700.

Samsung Z1

The entry-level Samsung Z1 handset boasts 1.2 GHz dual-core processor coupled with 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage which is expandable up to 32 GB using a microSD card. The device is featured with a 4-inch WVGA PLS screen and a 3.1-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video calling.

The primary camera may disappoint many users as the phone does not capture sharpest images under sufficient light. The dual-SIM phone covers almost all the connectivity options like 3G, Bluetooth and Wifi.

The Samsung Z1 comes with a 1500 mAh of battery that offers up to 8 hours of talk time and 7 hours of video playback. Moreover, the smartphone boasts Ultra Power Saving Mode, which offers a whole day battery backup to the consumers with minimal running processes.

As far processor is concerned, on paper it seems a low configurated mobile phone but according to our usage, it run apps fairly smooth. There was no lag in opening apps like say Facebook, WhatsApp, or even browsing the web.

Tizen OS

Tizen is a Linux based OS, which was previously seen in its smartwatch Samsung Gear S. Moreover, the Samsung Group says in CES 2015 that smart television series, launching this year will be running on Tizen OS.

Tizen was initially conceptualized by Tizen community in 2012 as an on-going project under the Tizen Association, within the Linux Foundation. It is an Open-Source project targeting towards mobile operators and manufacturers, which can also be used in automobile systems and televisions.

According to our analysts, the Tizen OS will have to face a great competition with the mobile king Android, which covers more than 50 percent of the smartphone world. As, Samsung’s previous Bada OS did not live up to the company’s expectations and eventually was discontinued.

The Tizen OS is featured with Andriod looking icons and a swipe down notification panel. It also boasts a Favourites app feature that holds eight most running apps in two rows. There is a Tizen app store provided by the developers, however, most common apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Google aren’t available. But thanks to integrated Android app support, the smartphone runs these apps flawlessly. Samsung Group hasn’t announced any future updates regarding other app stores to the OS.

Z1 looks quite similar to Galaxy Ace or Galaxy Star series phones. There is nothing radically changed in Samsung’s design as it has metallic-finish on the side that doesn’t look so different from any other droidphone or that has been offered by Samsung in the past. Moreover, it doesn’t seem that the design will help the company in marketing the device.
