3 key considerations while buying a fitness band

The study analyst Garter has unveiled its new report which suggests that nearly one-third of smartwatch and fitness tracker users have abandoned their products. The analysation revealed that 29 percent of smartwatch owners and 30 percent of fitness tracker owners aren’t using their wrist wearable.

The company has surveyed more than 9,500 consumers from Australia, the United Kingdom, and United States, between June to August. The surveyor asked the participants about their attitudes towards wearables as well as their purchasing behaviours around smartwatches, fitness trackers, and virtual reality glasses.

According to the survey, people those who abandoned their wearable gadget did so because they got bored of them, didn’t find them useful, or they broke.

“Dropout from device usage is a serious problem for the industry,” said Angela McIntyre, research director at Gartner. “The abandonment rate is quite high relative to the usage rate. To offer a compelling enough value proposition, the uses for wearable devices need to be distinct from what smartphones typically provide. Wearables makers need to engage users with incentives and gamification.”

Gartner also showed, in 2016 Gartner Personal Technologies Study that the smart wearable devices are still in early phase of adoption. The smartwatches are still sitting at 10 percent while the fitness trackers are coming close to 19 percent adoption rate.

Specifying the data country wise, the US tops among all with 12 percent of adoption rate, while, the others follows as the UK at 9 percent and at last Australia at 7 percent. The study analyst also suggested that the users under the age of 45 years think that their smartphones can do all of their tasks and the smartwatches are not for them.
