After introducing android smartphones in the market, Intex is now shifting to the Sailfish operating system. The company has partnered the Finnish operating system developer, Jolla for its upcoming device Intex Aqua Fish, which will be running on Sailfish 2.0 OS.
The domestic electronics manufacturer, Intex is the first OEM partner of Jolla from India. Previously, the well-known Russian smartphone manufacturer, Yota Corporation has announced that the firm is soon going to launch its next Sailfish running smartphone.
The Sailfish developers revealed that it is at its core derivative of Meego, which was a Nokia OS and eventually abandoned for the Windows Phone. The team further said that the new OS will support most of the Android applications (.apk).
The firm has reported that its developers are currently working on the new smartphone, Intex Aqua Fish and it will be unveiled globally in November of this year.
Meanwhile, Jolla is entering the Indian market with complete homework as the firm has partnered with Snapdeal and Times Internet to provide a the country specific content to the OS. As a result of both of the partnerships, the new Intex Aqua Fish will come with Gaana and Snapdeal shopping app, pre-installed on it.
It is expected from the company to integrate a Snapdragon 410 processor to the device and price it around Rs. 15,000.
Sailfish OS is an open source general-purpose Linux operating system, widely known as a mobile operating system combining the Linux kernel for a particular hardware platform use.
Similarly, several other mobile manufacturers are also trying their strategies by slowly breaking away from Android, as Samsung has already started switching its handset(Z1) to the Tizen OS, on the other hand, Huawei is reportedly set to launch its new operating system. In addition, handsets with open source operating systems like Firefox OS and Ubuntu Touch (Canonical) also has been unveiled in the market.
As per the IDC reports, Android and iOS together control more than 96% of the global smartphone market.
