Drawing its half-baked story of releasing Android phones to an end, Nokia, the oldest mobile phone brand has unveiled its first-ever Android smartphone on Sunday. On 8th January, with a completely unexpected title of “Nokia 6”, HMD Global launched the first Nokia-branded android phone. Ahead of its rumored debut at the upcoming MWC, HMD Global, without making any trumpet blast, introduced its latest model on the official website. Revealing the major specifications details, HMD Global also give the glimpse of the price range and availability details about its latest flagship.
As mentioned in the website, Nokia 6 is a China-exclusive gadget and will be unavailable to any other markets. The phone, with the price tag of 1699 CNY (roughly Rs. 16,750) will only be put on sale via JD.com in the early of 2017. However, no particular timeline for the market availability of Nokia 6 is yet given by the official sources.
Replying to an e-mail interview about the Nokia 6, an official of Nokia confirmed that, “Currently, the company has no plans to introduce its latest Android handset in other markets than China. Nokia 6” signifies the first footstep for the Finnish multinational Nokia brand into the realm of Android smartphones and there will be no Android model from the brand in 2017.”
In terms of specs and functionalities of its new phone, HMD Global has given complete details on the launching website. As per the official declaration, Nokia 6, as expected is running on Android 7.0 Nougat OS, which is making it stand apart from other same range smartphones in the market. Unlike other mid-ranged models, Nokia 9 is holding a massive 5.5-inch in-cell full HD display which is shielded by 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top.
In terms of design, the elegant aluminum unibody outline of Nokia 6 is giving the phone a more sophisticated look and making it more comfortable to hold. Moreover, the handset is designed using 6000 series aluminum, which is giving it’s a more classy look. Unlike other smartphones holding fingerprint scanner at the rear, Nokia 6 has a powerful fingerprint sensor under the Home button at front.
Under the hood, the Nokia 6 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, clocked at 1.4GHz Octa-core processor paired with X6 LTE modem and Adreno 505 GPU. The storage part of the phone boasts 4GB of RAM and a huge onboard 64 GB ROM which is further expandable up to 128 GB via micro-SD card. The dual-SIM smartphone is backed by a powerful 3000mAH non-removable battery. Integrated with fast charging tech and Android Doze battery management, the phone is claimed to keep its lights on for longer.
In the photography section, the handset is packed with a 16-megapixel rear camera powered by f/2.0, phase detection, auto focus, and dual-tone LED flash. The front part of the phone boasts a f/2.08-megapixel snapper. In addition, what is making the smartphone stand apart from others is its built-in Dolby Atmos Sound Technology and ‘dual amplifiers’, which are proven to deliver a seamless musical experience to the listeners.
Apart from fingerprint scanner, the sensor section of Nokia 6 also includes ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, electronic compass, and gyroscope.
