Apple Watch India - The TeCake

As revealed earlier, the first smartwatch from Apple is now available for sale in India, just a day ahead of Diwali shopping holidays after seven months of global announcement. The smart wearable went on sale on Friday via Apple’s official retail stores, across the country. Apple is offering its Watch in three major variants to the Indian consumers – the budget friendly, Apple Watch Sport, the mid-range Apple Watch and the high-end expensive Apple Watch edition. All the three variants are available in two size options- 38mm and 42mm.

Also, the device will be available in Gold, Rose Gold, Space Gray, Silver Anodized Aluminium, polished Silver or Space Black stainless steel and 18-Carat Rose Gold and Yellow Gold colour variants that makes 40 different combinations from models, straps and sizes.

Falling light on the price tags, the Apple Watch is not at all budget friendly device in the price sensitive market. The prices of the product and its delayed launch apparently lead to face a high level of challenges in the Indian market. The cheapest variant of the e-wearable, Apple Watch Sports with Silver Aluminium Case and White Sport Band is priced at Rs. 30,900 for 38mm size variant and Rs. 34,900 for the 42mm size variant, which seems to be very high.

Meanwhile, the prices start increasing with adding features such as adopting the 38mm and 42mm Stainless Steel Case with the White Sport Band is priced at Rs. 48,900 and Rs. 52,900. Whereas, the  Classic Buckle leather strap or the recently introduced red coloured Sport Band would cost Rs. 60,900.

Prices for the mid-range variant goes up to Rs. 95,900 for stainless steel Link Bracelet. Beyond this, the range starts from Rs. 8.2 lakhs for the Apple Watch Edition with the cheapest White Sport band with 38mm of size, meanwhile, the 42mm size variant would drill the consumers pockets for Rs. 9.9 Lakhs. The price range for the expensive Apple Watch Edition (made in 18-Carat Rose gold casing) goes uo to 14.2 lakhs, which is the most costly variant in the series.

It is expected that the Apple Watch could face competition from other devices, which are already established and selling in India, such as Samsung’s Gear 2, the LG Watch Urbane, the upcoming Samsung Gear S2 and the new Motorola Moto 360.
