The settling of sex-comedy genre in the Indian audience like Grand Masti and Kya Super Cool Hai Hum paved a successful way for the film ‘Hunterrr’ to not sail into the uncharted area or come out as a rather new concept. Although, it may be said that the film didn’t have the annoying all too obvious objectification of women as a tool for sex like the former two, it mainly concentrated on the area of the disorder of the society through the life of an average young man.
The film stars Gulshan Devaiah, Badlapur famed Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar in lead roles. The story of the film is about an unassuming sex addict and his lustful journey in life through various stages in his life. Mandar Ponkshe is the so-called ‘protagonist’ in the film which is an average looking, not too flashy or rich guy. He flirts around and manages to woo a lot of women without thinking of the consequences which land him into troubled waters. The film crosses a time span of 25 odd years in Ponkshe’s life.
What did work for the film was, Gulshan Devaiah’s acting skills and his way with convincing the audience that even though he is a twisted pervert, he got the audience to care about him.
What didn’t work for the film was its slow paced, two and a half hour journey of Ponkshe’s life. The story may have been a good concept and a refreshing one if a look at the previous releases under the same genre are compared, but the poor direction may lead to the downfall of the film. The story was alright until the ending came which left the audience dissatisfied and frustrated.
All in all, this movie is for the rookies to watch and take pleasure in the bird watching and skirt snatching tale of Mandar Ponkshe- the psychologically disturbed sex addict.Tags: Bollywood, Entertainment, Gulshan Devaiah, Movie Review, Radhika Apte, Sai Tamhankar
